Erik Offerman

Application of Synchrotron Radiation in Materials Science

Erik Offerman (1974) studied Materials Science & Engineering at the Delft University of Technology and received his Master of Science in 1999. In 2003 he obtained a Ph.D. degree in the fields of experimental physics and materials science for research on evolving microstructures in carbon steels studied with neutron radiation and synchrotron radiation. In the same year he received a Veni grant from the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research for talented young researchers and was offered a tenure-track position at the department of Materials Science & Engineering of the Delft University of Technology. In that time he performed most of his experiments at the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF) in Grenoble, France. In 2007 Erik received a Vidi grant for talented and more experienced researchers and was appointed assistant professor in the group of Microstructural Control in Metals in Delft.
